Girls 9th and Boys 11th at 2008 State Meet

Amanda Hammer takes 3rdThe year ended with the girls placing 9th and the boys placing 11th at the 2008 State finals. AManda Hammer came in 3rd for the girls and set a another school record. Jim Janisse also had another great finish, placing 11th in the boys division 3 race. Everyone would like to thank coach Hammer and coach Adams for another great year and for all of the years of coaching so many successful cross country teams here at Elk Rapids High School.

Both Teams Qualify for the State Meet

The boys and girls both placed second at yesterday's Regional Meet at Benxzie Central High School,. qualifying them for the 2008 state meet. Amanda Hammer placed first in the division 3 girls' race and Jim Janisse took second in the division 3 boys' race.

2008 ER Invitational

Elk Rapids InvitationalThe Girls took home a trophy and 4th place at Saturday's Elk Rapids Invitational. Amanda Hammer and Laura Bailey were both in the top 10 for the team. Ryan Sundberg and Jim Janisse also placed in the top ten and the boys team placed 5th.

Girls and Boys both 2nd at Conference Meet

Elk Rapids Cross CountryIt was a beautiful fall day in Alanson, Michigan today for the Conference meet and both teams placed 2nd. Amanda Hammer placed first at the race for the third year in a row and Jim Janisse was 2nd in the boys' race.

ER Girls Ranked 8th in Division 3

After a strong showing down at the Portage Invitational the Elk Rapids Girls are now ranked 8th in the state. The boys team received an honorable mention this week.

The Cross Country & Tennis Benefit Concert was a Great Success

Benefit ConcertBreathe Owl Breathe and Syzygy, with Cross Country members Ryan and Dylan Sundberg, performed at Peterman Auditorium for around 250 enthusiastic music fans Saturday night.

Portage Invitational

portage invitationalThis race is known as the "mini state meet" and each of the teams had a great day. The boys placed 9th out of 29 teams and the girls placed 6th. Amanda Hammer was 4th in the hilly course and Jim Janisse was 13th. Freshman Matt Moss ran his best time of the year at 17:38 and was the fastest freshman in the entire race. Carson City Invitational

Carson City InvitationalBoth teams ran very good races on the Carson City course this year. The boys team ran a strong race against 24 other teams, nearly putting all 5 scoring runners under 18 minutes. This race featured 5 of the top ten teams in the state and the boys placed 5th overall. Jim Janisse was 4th overall and both he and Ryan Sundberg ran in the 16's. For the girls team Laura Bailey and Danielle Peters both posted personal best times. The girls are now ranked 10th in the state in Division 3 and placed 6th at this week's race. View the Carson City photos...

Cross Country and Tennis Benefit Concert - October 4, 2008 - 8 PM

On October 4th at 8 PM the ERHS Cross Country and Tennis teams will host a benefit concert at Peterman Auditorium, featuring "Breathe Owl Breathe" and ER High School's own "Syzygy".  The proceeds from this concert will benefit the two sports programs at Elk Rapids High School. Breathe Owl Breathe is an incredible acoustic band that combines modern folk with comedy for a great night of entertainment. This band has recently received some national attention with the release of their 4th CD titled "Ghost Glacier". The opening act will be "Syzygy", an Elk Rapids band that has been together since 8th grade and features members from the Cross Country and Tennis teams. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for Students. 2008 Holly Invitational - Girls take 4th in D3

holly invitationalRain, Rain and more rain turned the Holly Invitational into the "Holly Mud Run".  Our girls placed 4th in D3 and several runners on both teams took home medals for Elk Rapids at one of the largest races in Michigan.

East Jordan Invitational - Boys 2nd place, Girls 2nd place

Another great week for the boys' and girls' teams at East Jordan. Both teams finished the day in second place. Four girls and 5 boys picked up medals at the race and several of the girls and boys ran their best times of the year.

Dwayne Rau Memorial Invitational at Ogemaw Heights - Boys first place, Girls first place

Both the boys' and girls' teams had a great day at Ogemaw Heights this year, with a first place finish for both teams in the small school division. Jim Janisse also placed first at the meet in the small and large school division. The girls' team had some great finishes for the day with Laura Bailey placing in the top ten. Several freshmen also ran great times in this very challenging race.
