Boys' Team and Amanda Hammer have a great day at the State Meet
Amanda Hammer was in the front of the pack, finishing 16th in a field of over 250 of the state's top runners. All of the boys finished the day's race with their best times of the year, securing 9th place at this year's state meet. View the slide show with music of the state meet...

Boys' Team and Amanda Hammer Qualify for the State Meet
The day started out rainy, cold and windy and when the sun came out it was the boys turn to shine. The team took second place at the regional meet in Benzie on Saturday and 4 of the team members also took home individual medals. Amanda Hammer ran a great race, coming in fourth and qualifying for the state meet down in Brooklyn, Michigan on November 3rd. See the schedule page for race times and directions. Boys Win Conference Meet - Amanda Hammer is Girls' Conference Champ!
The boys' team came away winners at this year's conference meet, beating out 7 teams, including tough competition from Harbor Springs and Charlevoix. Amanda Hammer turned in a great performance and took home the top spot in the girls' event and also made the girls' all conference team. Four of the boys made the 7 member all conference team and 4 members of the girls team placed in the top 14, securing them honorable mentions. View the photos from the conference meet...

The conference meet is on Tuesday October 16th in East Jordan. JV race - 4 PM, GIrls race - 4:30 PM,
Boys race - 5:00 PM.
Portage Invitational
The heat was on at this year's Portage Invitational where the temperature climbed to almost 90 degrees with strong humidity. The times for all races were slower this year, but each team placed where they were ranked in the state wide rankings. The Portage Invitational is currently the largest invitational in Michigan and one of the largest high school cross country events in the midwest.

Carson City / Crystal Don Baese Invitational
The teams traveled to Carson City where the boys placed 5th out of 23 teams and the girls came away with a strong 6th place in the field of 21. The boys' team is currently ranked 8th in the state and the girls' are ranked 10th.

Jackson Invitational
It was a beautiful day for running at the Jackson Invitational and senior Thomas Lucas took advantage of the great weather, turning in his best performance of the season. The team ran in the division 2 race and many of the boys on the varsity squad had personal best times for the year, with 4 of the boys picking up medals for their efforts. Next week, the team heads down to Carson City for the Carson City / Crystal Don Baese Invitational ( Directions to the Carson City Meet | Meet information ).

Holly Invitational
The girls ran a tough race against some of the best division 3 teams in the state of Michigan, capturing third place in a strong field of over 20 teams. The boys' team also had a great day bringing home a fourth place trophy. The girls' and boys' teams both had very close races with the girls missing out on 2nd place by only 2 points and the boys missing 3rd place by the same margin of only two points. The field of 26 teams in the boys' division three race ran a much faster pace this year and all of the boys ran personal best times for the day. Next week the team heads down to the Jackson Invitational at Sharp Park in Jackson, Michigan. View the photos of the meet...
Bath Invitational
The boys' and girls' teams both ran up in the division 2 race last weekend and both teams did well. The boys team placed 4th, just behind two of the best cross country teams in Michigan, Williamston and Linden. The girls team had a strong showing with a 5th place finish. Amanda Hammer continues to lead the girls' team, placing second in the division two race. View the photos of the meet...
Boys team takes 1st at East Jordan Invitational
The boys team did it again this week with a 1st place finish at the annual East Jordan Invitational. Jim Janisse paced the top four runners for the Elks with a 3rd place finish overall, Thomas Lucas was 4th, Jake Mills 5th and Ryan Sundberg rounded out the top four finishers with a 7th place finish. Four 1st place finishes at Ogemaw
Yes, I said four... The girls took the first of three 1st place awards when Amanda Hammer came in 1st overall in the girls race. The second 1st of the day came when the girl's team captured 1st in the small school division. The third 1st place went to the girls team again for their 1st place finish overall at the meet.. The boys scored the the final 1st place of the day by winning the small school division race... racing past the other 13 teams, including 5 division one schools. The only team that outscored our boys was one of the top division one teams in the state.

The first meet of the year took place on a sunny and warm Saturday morning.
The teams did great and the highlight of the meet was
the second place finish by Junior Amanda Hammer.

Another great concert from Switchback and friends
The team would like to thank Marty McCormack and Brian Fitzgerald of Switchback, Jim Marshall, Stephanie O' Dell and Dave Eggbrecht for all their hard work and great musical performances at this year's Cross Country Benefit Concert at Peterman Auditorium. It was a great summer night of Celtic, Bluegrass, Country and the all of the great original tunes from one of Chicago's best musical groups.

Switchback returns to Elk Rapids for another Cross Country benefit concert on August 12th
The Chicago based Irish-Americana band Switchback astounded the audience at Peterman Auditorium last year, at the 2006 benefit concert for the Elk Rapids Cross Country Team. The crowd gave Switchback, and guest performers Ron Kendzierski and Stephanie O' Dell, two emotional standing ovations. If you missed the 2006 concert, don't worry. Switchback and some special guests are doing it all again this summer on August 12th.[ visit Switchback's website - www.waygoodmusic.com ] -- Tickets go on sale August 2nd and you can buy them in Elk Rapids at the Corner Druggist, Chef Charles or from any member of the Elk Rapids Cross Country Team. This concert is a great fundraising event for the team, so please plan on attending and tell your friends! Switchback is one of the best performing singer/songwriter duos in the midwest...just ask anyone that attended last year's concert.

Getting ready for the 2007 season
There will be a meeting on August 2nd at 6:30 PM for all team members. The meeting will be held at the pavilion next to the Elk Rapids Chamber of Commerce. It is necessary to have at least one parent present at this meeting. The meeting will last approximately 45 minutes. There will be handouts regarding physicals, insurance information, camping essentials that your child will be responsible for, contact numbers and the camp schedule which includes a very special parents' day on Saturday, August 18th. We will also be handing out posters and tickets for the benefit concert on the 12th of August.
The ER CC girls' and boys' teams are also meeting to run together, Monday - Friday at the park next to the tennis courts in downtown Elk Rapids at 7:00 pm for the rest of the summer. These pre-season runs are not mandatory, but they are set up to help everyone. The coaches will not be present.
2007 Cross Country Camp
The Cross Country camp dates for 2007 are August 13th - 18th at the Wilderness State Park Campground.
We will be leaving the High School at 10:00am Monday morning (13th).
